Elaphe Propulsion Technologies Ltd was established in 2006 with the focus on the development of in-wheel motors for electric and hybrid vehicles. Today Elaphe is among the most experienced companies in this field – the company boasts more than 12 years of research, development and sales experience in the field of electric vehicles with propulsion power up to 440 kW, over 40 different electric vehicle types converted and more than 15 different successfully completed in-wheel motor projects.
Elaphe direct-drive high-efficiency motors are designed to fit into the wheel of a vehicle without compromising performance and form. The high-end Elaphe in-wheel propulsion system brings, among other things, performance, efficiency, design and space saving advances compared to existing propulsion system while advanced electronic systems enable increased vehicle control, safety and user-friendly infotainment. Elaphe is represented by a young but experienced and ambitious development team consisting of physicists, electrical and mechanical engineers.
Elaphe is working on predictive health monitoring for estimating remaigning life of in wheel motors or complete system (including data from BMS) by combining data from propulssion control unit with different sensor data and motor test data to identify early failure indicators. This will support motor development and manufacturing proces and increase vehicle reliability by improved component as well as optimal service scheduling.

In order for the in-wheel system to be massively deployed in new electric vehicle models, we need to demonstrate its reliability and introduce new technologies to further improve the system reliability and safety by developing a smart condition monitoring system that would increase the reliability of in-wheel solution. While the vehicle architecture has not changed much in the recent years, new technologies like autonomous driving, electrification, new disruptive business models, demand for rethinking the vehicle design and operational requirements. The disruption in road transport allows for introduction of new technologies, such as in-wheel system, that brings a new playing field in vehicle packaging and control possibilities. Along with changing design and control requirements, new business model demand for increased durability and overall reliability on the system level.
Elaphe is leader of use case UC T-3 Elaphe is enabler of the development and implementation of AI methods and is building a demonstrator for this purpose.
